On 27 and 28 February 1945 the sixteen leaders of the Polish Underground State were arrested by NKVD and jailed in Lubyanka prison in Moscow. In a staged trial they were accused of collaboration with Nazi Germany, hostility to the Soviet Union and acting against the Red Army. In June 1945, the Soviet court delivered its verdicts - most of the accused were sentenced to prison. Three of them died before the end of their sentence, including the last Commander-in-chief of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), Leopold Okulicki "Niedźwiadek".
