In Between? in Bukovina - short summary

Viktoriia Medvedko, Oleksandr Yaroshchuk, Anton Udovenko, Monika Hrycyk, Joanna Urbańska and Karoline Winter - students and freelancers from Ukraine, Poland, and Germany visited the Bukovina region. Various skills and unique talents of the participants contributed to the creation of an interdisciplinary team. During 7 days they explored and examined five main minorities inhabiting the Bukovina region.

The first day was full of 20th-century history of Chernivtsi, the multiethnic capital of the Bukovina region. Later participants encountered the Romanian culture and conducted interviews in  small villages, Magala and Stanivtsi. The second day was dedicated to the exploration of rare Polish dialect in Stara Krasnoshora. On Jewish culture day, the students met the most multifaceted persons in their whole research: an artist, a camera operator, and an army interpreter. On the fourth day, the team held meetings with people representing  two cultures from two opposite poles: Germans and Armenians. The project participants were imbued with a  famous multiculturalism of Chernivtsi, a bridge between different cultures, which were the focus of the research.

"In Between?" project was not only about interviews and meetings with locals, but also provided an opportunity for personal development in various areas. The participants conducted a workshop for children about Polish language, and delivered a presentation about current educational and cultural projects by Gedankendach. They also participated in a workshop with Iryna Vikyrchak who talked about the Jewish-German literature of Bukovina.

"In Between?" project in Bukovina would be impossible without Eugen Patras, Pavlo Pivtorak, Vyacheslav Semeliuk, Oksana Matiychuk, Regina and Tomash Kaluscy. Big thanks on behalf of the ENRS team!
